Tarot Review: Fairy Tarot & Sufi Tarot

Pampered myself with some early Christmas presents, and got them really quickly from Amazon (like in 2 days). Very excited about them!

The first is the Fairy Tarot deck by Radleigh Valentine. I must say I was a little disappointed with the colour quality - I expected lighter and brighter colours. I have been looking for a deck that looks really pretty, so that it's more visually pleasing for clients (some Tarot decks can look rather Gothic or ominous). I thought this deck might do the trick, being fairy-themed and all. But the colours turned out rather solemn and dim. 

Also, as the cards are rather large, the glossy finish kinda makes it even harder to shuffle. 

To give the artist credit, maybe it's the printing quality that brings it down. Because if you take time to admire the details in the artwork, it's still quite fascinating and beautiful artwork.

Next is the Sufi Tarot deck by Ayeda Husain. I have always been fascinated with the Sufi, so was very excited to chance upon this deck. In contrast to the Fairy Tarot, these cards have matt finishing, so it's much easier for shuffling. It also gives the artwork a rustic, calm feel, which is very apt for the Sufi theme.

What's really intriguing about this deck, is that the Major Arcana cards are named in Arabic (see below). 

On the downside, as beautiful as the artwork is, I do feel they are a bit too literal (rather than symbolic) for Tarot cards. And as much as I like the rustic colour scheme, it does make some of the cards look rather gloomy and sad, like this one.

Guess I'm still on my quest for a pretty looking deck!

This is the darkness before dawn. You may feel like you have lost it all, and are completely ruined. The journey to this point was painful, torturous and grueling. You have exhausted all options, you have given it all, and now you are burnt out, empty and broken to bits. 

"Just kill me", you say.

But as much as the rest of you is drowning, keep your head above the water. Retain enough sanity just to make that choice we all have. This can be a breakdown or a breakthrough. This can be the end or the beginning of something else. This can be a loss or an opportunity for something new. This can be betrayal or it can be your salvation from those who do not serve you. 

Where it goes is all a matter of perspective and choice. 

This week is all about turning points:

• When you have come to the end, look for a new beginning.

• When you feel down, remember that the only way is up and it can only get better.

• When it seems like you have nothing, look for what you do have.

• When you have run out of options, it is your time to do the impossible.
